KUCHING: Sarawak's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure continued to expand with the addition of two new Fast EV charging locations at Sarawak Plaza and Riverside Majestic Hotel.

Led by SDEC Karuna JV Sdn Bhd (SKJV), the expansion introduces a total of four new 22kW AC charging points, further strengthening the state's commitment towards sustainable mobility and green transportation.

SKJV is a joint-venture company between Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and Karuna Sarawak Enterprise Sdn Bhd.

SKJV is majority-owned by the Government of Sarawak through SDEC.

SKJV serves as the implementing agency for SDEC on Smart City Commercialization, driving key initiatives in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

SKJV's vision is to be the foremost implementer of smart city solutions in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, the newly commissioned charging stations are located at:

• Sarawak Plaza – 2 units of 22kW AC chargers, located on the 3rd Floor of the Multi-Storey Car Park

• Riverside Majestic Hotel – 2 units of 22kW AC chargers, located on the 4th Floor of the MultiStorey Car Park

In a statement, SKJV said that both locations are now fully integrated into the Fast EV mobile application, allowing EV users to conveniently locate, activate, and pay for charging sessions through a seamless and hassle-free user experience.

Charging rates are set at RM0.22 per minute, providing EV owners with an affordable and reliable charging solution in the heart of Kuching city.

“The expansion marks another important step in SKJV’s ongoing efforts to develop a comprehensive EV charging infrastructure network across Sarawak.

As EV adoption continues to grow, accessible charging infrastructure remains a key enabler in encouraging greater public confidence in electric mobility,” said Melvin Ong, director of SKJV and Group Chief Executive Officer of Karuna Venture Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Ong added that in line with its expansion plans, SKJV is set to expand the Fast-EV network with two new DC fast charging locations in Kuching. Details of the new locations will be announced soon.

“The Fast EV initiative reflects Sarawak’s commitment to fostering innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development through locally driven technology solutions,” said Ong.
